Free Motion Machine Embroideries

My embroideries are attached. They are sewn on silk that has been painted and then over- embroidered freestyle on a domestic sewing machine. My studio includes a store of around 400 spools of cotton thread in a huge range of colours so that I can select the one that's just right to produce the subtle blend I need.

    diverse textile art
I create differing forms of textile art, from detailed thread paintings to appliques to felted pictures, bags and covered books. I love natural forms.

For many years I was a teacher of florists, travelling all over the world, invited to pass on European British style to students and fellow tutors. I now put all of my energy into my textiles, using natural fibres - silk, wool, linen and cotton - to create detailed landscape and flower thread paintings, appliques and felted pictures and practical items. I am, of course, inspired by natural forms; flowers, plants, sometimes insects and birds. I immerse myself in the textures of these lovely materials and beautful colours, blending and highlighting. I'm constantly learning and loving my new direction.

My latest direction is in the making of art dolls - not toys but rag dolls with a back story nad a sense of the surreal and fun. You can find me on instagram as bramble_cottage_crafts to see my latest creations...thread painting, wall art, machine embroidery, acorns, frost
