Phil Cope makes sculptures and vessels from locally sourced hardwoods. The slow, meditative, reflective process is an important aspect of the  work. The wood acquired may inspire a piece or alternatively a work on paper may find expression in a suitable piece of wood.

'Making objects from wood reflects a balance between the human and natural world; a balance that is becoming increasingly precarious. I try to make things that celebrate the natural world and restore a little balance for their owners.'

'In making my work, I seek out materials to use that would otherwise be discarded or lost, celebrating the limitations of what I have obtained and using them creatively.'
