Weaving and bobbin lace were early passions but in the last few years I have been inspired to explore colour and texture in patchwork and quilting. I soon tired of using printed fabrics and moved towards what is known as Modern Quilting. Hard to define but Modern Quilters tend to experiment, often taking a traditional block or pattern and experiment to make something fresh. Like many Modern Quilters I love using plain or solid colours and I will improvise from a starting point until I achieve my vision. Sometimes I include quite contemporary prints and play around with positive and negative space. I love geometric designs and the work of Bridget Riley. Modern Quilts are the updating of classic designs for the 21st Century.
My second passion in life is making jewellery. I love pearls, crystals and semi precious stones. I only make earrings and necklaces that I would like to wear myself. Classic, unfussy pieces that can be worn day or night. Generally I work with sterling silver but, on occasion, gold too.
I am proud to be membership secretary for COS dealing with all membership issues and communications. I am also an active member of Cambridge Quilters and recently started to blog about my creative work. marioncurtis.blogspot.co.uk
